Map Making

In order to better understand what Lewis and Clark went through, we are going to follow them on their expedition. Looking at their maps, below, how do you think they made their maps? Do you think their maps were accurate? Essentially, give your point of view on map making after investigating two famous explorers.

  1. i think that Lewis and Clark made an expedition in the North, and there they found with some natives so they fought, Clark standed up firm and they stopped fighting, the natives got Clark to a camp then they had to move in a boat and the natives told them things about the terrain and the mountains so the could guide and make a map. They could cross the mountains but they had to figure out some places because the information of natives wasn't exact to make a map.

  2. I think that they did their maps by looking the mountains and the terrain they traveled.
i think that their maps aren`t exactly correct. I think that those maps are just an idea that they have of the terrain.

  3. In my opinion what John said is kind of fine. They did have some help from the natives, but they also made their own journals, which help them to make better the map. Their maps weren't accurate, but they kind of match with the real ones, and that was fine considering that they didn't have all the instruments that we have know.

  5. I agree with francisco because they traveled and as they were exploring terrain they strated to make a map but with the information the knew so it could be wrong.

  6. I agree with all but in my opinion i think they receive no help of natives,a lot of help and the mayority they imagine by the terrain.

  7. I think john is correct because i think lewis and clark travel to the north and in that road they found natives that attack them after all that problems, the indians help them in their expedition with a boat and supplies then lewis and clark continue their expedition and after 2 months they finaly finish their expedition and I think they were no really precise because they couldn't see from the sky exactly like using a satelite.

As you can see, the reason for the expedition was that America had recently bought a great part of what is now the U.S. from France, The Louisiana Purchase. Do you think it was ethical for France to sell something which already belonged to the Native American Indians?

  10. NO I DON´T THINK FRANCE WERE ETHICAL WITH NATIVE AMERICANS WHEN THEY SOLDTHAT US PART TO US.

  11. Why do you think this, Saul? Explain your answer and your reasons. Of course you're right but what makes you think that.

  13. I think it wasn´t ethical too because france wasn´t the owner and that was unfair for the native americans.

  14. I agree with Francisco because the French arrived to conquer America and that is unfair

  15. yes i`m agree with all, the frenche people were very intelliget because they conquer indian territory so they sell that again to the indians and won more money.

  16. Again, you're all right, but what makes you say that? Why is it unethical? Why shouldn't France have conquered America? And, Porfirio, Did France sell it back to the indians? I would like more complex answers, like the ones you used before

  17. I think that because of that the 13 colonies from England started to get terrain. But during the war England sold indian territory to France. And I think that to sell the territory to neatives again was unethical because they took advantage of them.

  18. I think it is wrong that the French took the land from the natives because it was like a robbery

  19. I agree with john cause the indians didn´t know what was heppening and france profited.I also agree with lupita cause it was like a robbery because france conquered and then they sell to the us and that was unethical.

  20. I agree with all that it wasn't ethical, it was unfair for the Native Americans because Jefferson only thought of himself, he never thought about the Native Americans, all that he wanted was to discover a new route to get to the pacific. He also felt that France had the power to block America. Also if he hadn't bought that part, maybe, America would be uncommunicated.

  21. because they don`t be fair because you couldn`t sell a terrain part that don`t belongs to you.

  22. i`m desagree with lupita, yes it was unfair but wasnt robbery beacause they wanted to conquer not to rob they are diferent. in my opinion i still thinkin that french people were very intelligent
